GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- Sydney Levy scored a season-high 21 points to help lead the Green Bay women's basketball team over the Robert Morris Colonials 71-54 at home Sunday afternoon.

The Phoenix (15-4, 8-2 HL) had two other players in double figures. Bailey Butler added 16 points and five assists, and Callie Genke chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds in just her third start of the season.

Phoenix Gedeon led Robert Morris (8-11, 2-8 HL) with 13 points, seven rebounds, and four steals. Rebecca Dwomoh also chipped in with 11 points.

"Robert Morris is a good team," commented head coach Kevin Borseth after the victory. "They're hard to play against. They are blue-collar."

After falling behind 8-3, Green Bay went on a 7-0 run with 6:52 left in the first quarter. The run culminated in a bucket from Levy to take a 10-8 lead. It was back and forth for the remainder of the quarter, with RMU taking a one-point advantage by the end. Julia Hartwig scored four of GB's final six points in the quarter.

The Colonials led by no more than four for the first 3:57 minutes of the second quarter. Tatum Koenig put the Phoenix ahead at the 6:03 mark, part of the five points she scored in the stanza. The game continued to be close and featured five lead changes in the quarter. Butler added five points in the last 1:15, propelling GB to a 36-32 halftime lead.

The third quarter was the turning point of the game. A Mastral three-pointer gave RMU its last lead at the 8:13 mark. On the ensuing possession, Genke kicked off a 9-0 Phoenix run with two free throws. Levy converted an and-one opportunity with 3:09 to go to put the Phoenix up 10. They closed the quarter with an eight-point lead, 55-47.

Green Bay led by double digits for 9:08 in the final frame. The Phoenix closed the game on a 6-0 run to put it out of reach. GB outscored Robert Morris 16-7 in the fourth quarter, cruising to a 71-54 win.

"Our players are really coming together," continued Borseth. "Communication in-game on the court has been extremely well, and so has our sense of urgency and attention to detail."

  • >> The Phoenix shot well from three-point range, knocking down seven of 17 long-range attempts (41.1-percent)
  • >> GB showed stifling defense, holding the Colonials to only 34.5-percent shooting from the field.
  • >> Levy and Hartwig were quite the duo. Hartwig recorded four assists on Levy's baskets, and Levy recorded two assists on Hartwig's baskets.
  • >> Green Bay had a 39-26 edge on the boards in the win.
  • >> The Phoenix was a force inside, scoring 42 points in the paint to 18 for RMU.
  • >> Levy was efficient on the day, going 9-of-13 from the field.

Green Bay will resume their homestand next Thursday when they renew their in-state rivalry with Milwaukee at 7 p.m. The Phoenix will also welcome all members of the UWGB Campus Dorms to the game to compete against each other for special prizes.
